I went in for a mammogram yesterday. Confession…. I’ve avoided it for over two years. I stopped procrastinating when I saw a flyer offering no appointment necessary mammograms, treats, swag from local companies and donuts. Honestly, I think donuts would have been adequate bribery. I asked my friend Krista along which made it more fun. Win
one two for the girls.
I have to say the whole experience was pleasant. The atmosphere was light, some gals even laughed and chatted with each other in the waiting room. The new standard is 3D Mammography which they used for my exam.
It was uncomfortable but a bit better than the traditional boob smasher which, if you need a visual, looks like this….
FYI: “In 2009, the US Preventative Services Task Force raised the starting age of its recommendation, suggesting that women receive a mammogram every other year starting at age 50 and stopping at age 74. The American Academy of Family Physicians agreed. This contradicted the recommendation of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which recommends women receive a mammogram every year starting at age 40; the American Cancer Society co-signs age 40 as the proper start of regular screening, as does the American College of Radiology.”
