Keeping a life in balance takes work and energy. For me, balance is a challenge. I’m more of a do one thing for awhile, then try something new kind of gal. But, a successful life takes focusing on all aspects of life.
We all have have-to’s: work, cleaning the house…social obligations. Luckily we also have get-to’s: going for a run, eating yummy food, hanging with best buds or vacation. Have to’s often take energy, get-to’s usually give some back.
If you read my last post, fitness is getting some extra focus right now. In the past two weeks, I’ve added in running 3-4 days a week. I’m optimistic and excited about another big race. And…I’m working hard to maintain the rest of my life. I’m still hiking and walking with Roger, working, writing and enjoying time with friends. All of that takes energy.
There have been times I have energy for everything and keep up with energy to burn. Currently, my reserves are spread a little thin. This year, I want to finish a marathon, travel, write, maintain relationships and keep my job. Whew! That’s quite a list.
By adding in good stuff life gets a little sweeter. Of course, it’s important to maintain what’s working in the first place. That’s the balance. Some examples if I may:
If you want to eat better, add in some wholesome food. Eventually, your healthy food choices will fill you up before you get to the unhealthy food and… no diet! Or if someone is getting you down, walk away and put energy toward the people who lift you up.
Adding in good stuff can create a more ideal life. Just remember to maintain balance. To manage my big days I’m going back to basics. I’m focusing on getting enough sleep and eating well. I’m taking time for important stuff like love, family and writing. I’m making small additions and inching my way toward a more ideal me.
