I have a lot of wants. I want to be happy, fit, peaceful, rested, feel free, I want to travel and I want money. I think having it all is possible. I believe we deserve to have the things we want. It takes work and some forethought but it is possible if you decide what exactly you really want.
I was struggling with a decision this year. The ‘problem’? I committed to being debt free by end of this year and want to travel. While a flexible job and boss allow me to get away, travel requires time and money.
It would be easier to make debt free or travel happen. I of course, intend to do both. I’m heading to Cabo Pulmo, Mexico next month…. a sleepy little village on the edge of the Sea of Cortez….
and…I’ve also decided on another Camino from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain this May. It’s about a 124 mile trip from north Portugal to Northwest Spain on foot. I love both of the countries and my friends Sandy and Frank who invited me to come along.
Dreamy right? To make it all happen I’m working more than usual…writing and running… and doing abs….OK I know what you’re thinking. I’m overdoing it, trying too many things at once. You’re right and…I’m paying attention to details. I’ve started to budget… a new concept for me.
I found 10 Tips on How to Save For Travel by Christy Woodrow. I’m going to apply a few of her tips:
- Create a Budget. I’m going to track my spending and see where I can find some more cash.
- Stop Buying. Sounds simple but it’s not. I know I can be thoughtless about spending. Time to bring some more awareness to that area.
- Automatic Transfer to Savings. Perfect! One of the tips I’ve learned recently is pay yourself first.
My energy is being spent on fine tuning and editing my world. I’m cutting out energy drains like debt. By putting those aside, I can focus on the things that fill my soul. I’m working toward freedom and things I’m passionate about…like travel.
